About Bike Safe Streets
Bike Safe Streets is an independent, community-led initiative created to better understand how people experience cycling infrastructure in their everyday lives.
The project began in Alberta with a simple idea: there should also be a way for people to show where cycling infrastructure works, where connections are missing and how streets could be made safer and more practical.
Bike Safe Streets is not affiliated with a political party, municipality or advocacy organization. Our goal is to collect constructive feedback, publish findings transparently and make the information available to communities and decision-makers.
Bike Safe Streets is focused on community-level trends and reporting. Participation does not require people to identify themselves, and the initiative does not need specific identifying information such as a participant's name, home address, workplace or school to understand how routes and infrastructure are experienced. Public findings will be prepared to protect individual privacy.

Focus on practical improvements rather than political arguments.
Inclusive
Feedback is welcome from cyclists, drivers, pedestrians, transit users, families and businesses.
Transparent
Clearly explain how information is collected, summarized and shared.
Independent
No political party, government or outside organization controls the findings.
Evidence-informed
Use routes, experiences and aggregated results to help understand how infrastructure works in practice.
Privacy-conscious
Collect only the information needed to understand broad trends, avoid requiring specific identifying information and protect participants when preparing public reports, maps and summaries.
